Around 5000 people attended the party at Dunedin's Forsyth Barr stadium which was promoted as an official world record attempt for the title of world's largest paint fight.

St John said it treated around 35 people at the Illuminate Paint Party on Wednesday night, sending 11 to hospital by ambulance.

"Nobody that went to hospital was sober," St John Dunedin operations team manager Doug Third said.

Some of those at the event were grossly intoxicated and "and not able to look after their own airways," he said.

The man was sentenced to six months community detention, 18 months intensive supervision and 80 hours of community work.

The woman was sentenced to 18 months intensive supervision and 160 hours of community work.

Permanent name suppression was granted to both parents to protect the identity of their children, who are still in state care..."

FFS- study your market and see what the houses in your area actually sell for. It will NEVER be what you THINK they SHOULD sell for.

'Soft' drug decriminalization

I support the decriminalization of 'soft' drugs, as I feel the greatest harm is from associating with those that sell them.

But with rights (to toke) must come responsibilities:

Minors may not use these drugs.
Employers are still free to insist upon employees being free from drugs.
You may not receive a benefit if you test positive for dope (see above)
You can grow your own, but may not sell, trade or raffle- just like with homemade spirits. In fact, you MUST grow your own.
A landlord may refuse permission to grow or use dope on their property and doing so, or consuming constitutes grounds for eviction.

Also, those selling illicit drugs shall receive life imprisonment, or the death penalty for supplying to a minor.

Conspiracy Theories

I have a theory on conspiracy theories.

They are propagated to smokescreen for actual conspiracies.

We have been flooded with any number of theories- the black helicopters, shadow alien governments, contrails that are chemical spraying, sinister alumni, assorted mind-control schemes and so on.

Now anyone suggesting any sort of a government plot is debunked as a tinfoil-hat wearer. I mean, how could anyone thing that the government and its henchmen could be anything but benevolent (clue: ask the Jews)

Take the chemical contrails- purpose unsure, but I have heard everything from weather control to mass medication with mind-control drugs. Sounds crazy and probably is.

How about a group of Nazi scientists, secreted away after the war to make weaponry for the government, in exchange for them not being tried for war crimes such as the use of slave labour? No- this could not happen in a country that fought the Nazi regime!

Or in a foreign land, any intellectuals- say, somebody who wears glasses (by way of definition) are rounded up and killed or used as slave labour? Crazy!- what country would kill off all of their thinking people?

See how the line between reality and la-la land becomes blurred?

Truth is so often stranger than fiction. And less believable...

As usual, there is the 'what was in it for ME?' wailing after the budget, followed closely (by not too closely)- the 'what about the poor children?' bellyaching. In this case, funding the do-gooders with 10 megabucks for the 'food in schools' program.

In this, the nats have it right when they say that the poor starving, lice- ridden kiddiewinks are the responsibility of their parents- NOT the government. Would that they followed this line a bit more and stopped propping up the terminally feckless.

If you can't feed 'em- don't keep on breeding them! Hell- us taxpayers are funding their contraception, so this shouldn't be so hard...
