My opinions on matters of the day that, generally, have pissed me off. Being described as a 'Surly Curmudgeon', by those who meet me on a good day, I have a poor regard for the human species. This is my place for my free speech- not bloody yours. Crap under your own rock.

Council Morons at SWDC
"...3. Community Board Minutes/Expenditure
3.1 RESOLVED that minutes of the Featherston Community Board meeting held
on 2 December 2008 be confirmed as a true and correct record.
(S Robertson/Barrow)
3.2 Matters arising
· Meeting with Rodney Hyde postponed..."
Now you really don't want to piss Rodney off by spelling his name wrong!
But I do hope you have!
Defining lickspittle
"As for Cullen, he left the NZ government’s books in the best state they have been in for a generation. Only at the last minute was he ambushed by the idiotic baying for “tax cuts” we were never going to be able to afford.
Cullen resisted tax cut pressure for several years - saying *explicitly* a “rainy day” was bound to come. He referred to debt problems overseas and possible trouble arrising form that. This was 3 years before the eventual crash.
National? Oblivious to it all…..Couldn’t see it coming.
…and you lot bag Cullen?
Those of us who know how this world really works dont’ deserve to suffer the stupidity that National and it’s supporters will insist on inflicting on us. But the most galling part is the arrogant IGNORANCE of the braying fools as they do it."

Go to the source of the problem
Invercargill SPCA manager Mary Bradley said there were at least five properties in the city with between 20 and 30 cats in each, and SPCA staff would appreciate some help to cull the wild and unhealthy felines. "Even if they (council) set the traps and brought the cats to us. I don't think they see it as their problem..."
Now most councils will have this covered with something like the text below:
911 ENCOURAGING RATS, ETC.
911.1 No person shall:
(a) Cause, permit, or suffer any refuse, waste matter, material, or thing to remain or
be kept in such a manner or for such a time as to afford shelter or likely
harbourage for rats, or encourage rats or other vermin to visit and frequent, or be
in such building, land, or premises;
(b) Fail to protect from access of rats or other vermin as far as practicable any article
which is or is likely to be food for rats;
(c) Neglect in any such building, land, or premises where rats or other vermin exist
or are harboured, or in which there is evidence of such existence, or harbouring,
to destroy rats by poisoning or trapping, or such other means as the Inspector may
direct; or
(d) Fail to remove or obliterate nests, burrows, or habitual haunts of rats in any such
buildings, land, or premises.
WILD cats are vermin. And it appears that once told the council are dealing with the problem- they usually will once you prod them in the arse.
BUT- and here is the point of my post- They should be going after those who CAUSE this problem instead of dumping the costs on all ratepayers. The crazy cat women (it usually is) who feed and breed these pests.
Make them pay.

Help out another VRWC Blogger!
"...Now the car is old but one that is held in great affection. It smells a bit but has been very very well looked after. (Our bloke - the Aussie Rock is like that) - its sort of a sea sick green colour and if you are in the Wairarapa you wont miss it because its the one with duct tape on the back seat passenger window.
and the rego is OZ 623..."
If you are in or around Masterton, please keep an eye out- there is a reward!
Just one more last chance?
Again.
Honestly! how many chances does this oxygen-thief get!
He can't/won't learn and I predict he will before long be back in court on serious charges.
And there will be another victim's life ruined or ended.
Like a rabid dog, there is only one guaranteed cure for his condition- 147grains of 7.62mm through the back of the head.
But the powers-that-be are to soft to even lock this piece of excrement away were he can do no harm to the public, so that ain't going to happen.
So who is the next victim going to be? Because there will be one.
Please let it be a defense lawyer, a judge or a politician.
If anyone deserves it- they do.

Councils and money- like giving chimps loaded guns
Or they wouldn't be even talking about buying these.
Not that they wouldn't be better value for money than paying for the great unwashed in the area...
My ACC story
Along with an assortment of serious and minor injuries, after being head-on'd by a hoon on the wrong side of the road and at about twice the speed limit, I received a hand injury.
My GP diagnosed this as a sprain- this was a couple of weeks after the event, stuff like the pulmonary embolism sort of distracting me from a bothersome hand. That's another story in itself.
So it was off to physio for a 'sprained wrist'
Within 5 minutes, the physio determined that the clicking and pain meant more than a sprain and said that it seem to be a fractured scaphoid bone.
Back to the GP who agreed there was something wrong.
Wait a couple of weeks for a referral to the hospital.
Get x-ray which showed nothing (this fracture can be a bastard to diagnose) Arm plastered anyway
Wait for another x-ray. This one shows something wrong.
Wait for a CT scan to confirm this.
CT scanner is broken. Wait for ACC to do a referral to a private clinic.
Specialist does not like what he sees. Refers to another specialist.
He doesn't like it either. Refers to Grand Pobah consultant.
This consultant concedes that the scaphoid is/was broken.
Plaster removed four months later. Off to physio.
Wrist still buggered. Back to specialist.
Specialist recommends surgery. Wait for ACC again.
Two years later, surgery confirms ligament damage, torn cartilage cleaned up.
Back to physio to build up strength is wasted arm.
2 1/2 years later I'm ready to go back to work...

So true!
A GOOD news story for a change.
"Twelve-year-old Cameron Turchie risked his life to save a five-year-old from drowning in pounding three-metre-high surf, 200 metres from shore..."
This meets my criteria (somewhat stricter than the MSM"S) for heroism. He put his life on the line to save another, by his own free choice.
Cameron, I salute you!

Can it.
In fact, sell all the state-owned TV. TV is a luxury, not an essential industry.
Let SKY do the all the TV programming- they do the greater bulk of it already.
Plenty of trash for the lower classes to watch- and they all have sky, so don't try and plead poverty...
Razor- skoolz
So lets can all funding (including student loans) for bullshit courses and McQualifications and focus on what is actually needed to produce real goods, services and ultimately- MONEY.
You know that ones- anything with the words 'social', 'woman's', 'Maori', 'Art'- and the list goes on.
Do them at your own expense. (I would like to see them all go this way, but I'm talking about now and the will ain't there yet)
As for secondary schools - if kids have to be held there past the time where they are capable if assimilating any more academic stodge (about the forth form)- let them study gardening, how to balance a cheque book, cooking, cleaning and basic handyman skills.
And how NOT to get pregnant- because the DBP is going!

Therefore, we will implement the RSA proposal to introduce a 'New Zealand Defence Medal" recognizing service in both the regular and non-regular services. The estimated one-of cost of this initiative is $750,000..."
Not '100 day' material, but not a hard one to get underway, either.
Nine day fortnight- Nien!
Not that I wouldn't mind cutting the hours back a bit!
Just pick a day when you don't want to shower or flush the dunny.
Fine by me!
But seriously, I think this needs to be reworked a little.
Government types (the 9-5 r's) should do an extra days work for the same pay each fortnight. Especially those involved in the courts!
While you still have jobs...
Just helping to make the lid sink a little faster!

When in recession
When I have been in strife a couple of years back (badly injured and a long time recovering), the first thing we did was to slash our expenses.
Not piss about nibbling at the edges- we slashed them.
Sold up, brought a smaller property with a much smaller mortgage. Canned all non- essential services like SKY, wheelie bin, newspapers, mobile phones, magazine subscriptions and so on.
Shopping was for what was on special and basics only- menus were planned for the fortnight around what we had brought. All trips by car were planned and events like family outings only happened when we were doing the shopping. We had a garden and I hunted for the pot. We brought second-hand clothes and generally did without.
So in the big picture, this is what needs to be done. The public service needs to be SLASHED and NOW. Just visit Libertarianz to see how much blubber we carry and what to do about it.
Here's just a start of the boondoggles to be axed in the Libertarianz Stop-Spending-So-Goddamned-Much Plan:
- Cindy Kiro's Office for the Children's Commissioner
- Peter Dunne's Families Commission
- Paula Rebstock's Commerce Commission
- David Lange's Ministry for Women's Affairs
- Jim Anderton's Ministry of Economic Development
- The Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs
- The Ministry for Maori AffairsThe Race Relations Conciliator
- The Ministry of Youth Development
- Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand
- Action on Smoking Hysterics
- Asia New Zealand Foundation
- Electricity Commission
- Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority
- The National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women
- The Department of Labour

Economic aid
As there is to be a wine glut, how about allowing vin ordinaire fill-your-own sales at the gate without all that excise nonsense?
More work for the pickers and all those involved in viticulture- grapes were going to be left on the vine to rot.
This is just one small example of how the economy can be 'stimulated' by politicians and bureaucrats standing the hell out of the way.

Go nuclear, go green.
That's the reality. If people want green, the way is through science and technology- NOT in redistributing money or becoming a Luddite.
I have not been a great fan of nuclear generation in the past, but technology is a changing. The first reactors were built with 1940-50's technology. Look how much electronics and engineering in general have advanced since then. Cars now almost always go when you follow the instructions and do minimal servicing. Remember 1960's British cars? Compare those with a late model Toyota.
Then there are advances on the horizon, like:
The Pebble-Bed Reactor
The Thorium reactor
And assorted small reactors
Now if only we could keep the government from running them...

Dirty, smelly bloggers

I was listening to squawkback today and Michael Laws was having a rant on bloggers. A quick bit of googling showed that this could be because of this incident.
It was over the blackout and Laws was bleating on about how only blogger read blogs, they are all wankers (bloggers) and well as being geeks with non-existent personal hygiene and butt-ugly to boot. As the MSM will have it, of course we are all insignificant, inconsequential and impotent.
Which is a bit rich coming from a squarkback host!
He was saying that all bloggers do is post their opinions on subjects and then argue over them.
So explain to me exactly how his show differs from this?
Will these types ever admit that their gripe with us is that we are not paid-up card-carrying members of the Journo's union?
And to give credit where it's due- what a refresing change to have the powers that be actually listen! Some were concerned that this would be a diversion for more pressing issues, but really- on quick executive decision and it's dealt with!

green 'Leadership'

I don't think Barnsley Bill got it quite right here.
The cast of Fraggle Rock just ain't foul enough.
Do not adjust your set- service will return Tuesday
Story here.
What will this Fascist law do to this blog?
No more links to MSM stories, for starters. So their hit rates will suffer as bloggers no longer link. I don't think the MSM are aware of the extent to which we promote their sites.
I won't paste verbatim PORTIONS of their stories, as I often do now.
I won't be pinching the odd image, so my other site promoting NZ will be reliant on my meager photographic skills.
I will simply take the story and rewrite a portion myself. Just like I did in school, rehashing the contents of a texbook.
The best I will be able to do to 'quote' my sources is to provide a google search keyword.
It certainly won't stop me ripping into the bastards!

A small wager on his fate?
For this reason it carries the death penalty on many parts of the world. In NZ it carries a maximum of 14 years imprisonment.
It's good to see this swine charged with kidnapping. Of course some smarmy lawyer will defend him saying that he 'only' intended to take the car- no doubt to deliver bibles to crippled pensioners.
I don't see it that way- you steal a car, you take the consequences. But no fear, you are in New Zealand and you will probably get two years, tops.
I don't think an inadvertent kidnapping quite deserves the death penalty.
But 14 years sounds fair...

Corrections correction
Unlike the picture some may paint, it's not bent screws selling drugs, mobiles and favours. That does go on, no doubt, as it would in any large organisation but I never saw it. I guess I had a reputation of being a bit straight up!
The endemic corruption is not at the 'front lines'. It's at the top.
The prison service is the worst example of 'us and them' between officers and management I have ever seen and the reason they are so unionised is that that have such a shit employer.
Incidents are continually brushed over and statistics twisted and misrepresented to downplay the sad state of what is actually going on in the wings. Incidents that would highlight the inadequate levels of staffing are not reported- by management and by staff that have given up trying to tell management.
The same goes for internal discipline. I have been guilty of looking the other way to infractions, as I couldn't be stuffed spending two days on paperwork for a charge then have the inmate get a lousy two days lockdown for possession of contraband.
As with so many government departments, I spent more time ticking checklists than actually out doing the job. Stuff like walking the wing stopping shit from happening. That wasn't considered important.
So, as I often say- if one bitches, one should offer a solution. Here it is.
Can the national headquarters staff- at least everybody who has never done time on the floor. Out with policymakers, trick cyclists and university wankers.
Nobody gets into management without serving their time and going up through the ranks. This was the case once. Would you put civilians into the top ranks of the army?- madness.
The great liberal experiment was to 'soften' the prison service. They decided that it was too authoritarian (FFS!), so uniforms were changed and anything with a military theme, such as parading, badges of rank and service-type discipline were removed.
With that mistake came the deluded idea that inmates need education ahead of work. So funds were diverted from staff to supervise work details to airy-fairy programs teaching fuckwits full of their own self importance to have more self-esteem!
What they really needed, as was understood by those with a practical bent, was to know work. To understand that they got up in the morning, work hard for a full day, then get up and do it again tomorrow.
They also learnt that consequences were swift and upleasant. A hiding down the block and a fortnight on lettuce soup.
Now they learn their friggin' rights!
In days of old, the prison bus had a shotgun on board and the guards had .38's. That was in the days of a much less violent NZ.
Now they have nothing to stop an escape. progess- it think not. Even in the land of superweanies, Sweden, they carry sidearms when moving inmates.
In summary, reform needs to start at the top and work down. There are some damn good people working for Corrections in the wings- at a ratio of about three good ones to every arsehole. Give them the direction, the power and tools to clean up the prisons and they will.
They know how.
The Howard leauge won't like it, but the liberals have had their chance and royally screwed the pooch.
Time for a change.

Apologists- a huge part of the problem
From judges who don't want to do what their employers demand- send wrongdoers to jail, to the rancid ninny on the talkback that was bleating about a violent thug being a victim.
The limp-dicked pussies that think making beneficiaries seek work, take drug tests or attend training is cruel and inhumane. The sort that think it is a career breeders right to pop uncared for pups willy-nilly.
Screw tolerence.
We SHOULD be angry about being forced to pay for parasites.
It's OK to want REVENGE against criminals and to want them sent to prison to be further punished.
Judges- We need to DEMAND accountability from the judiciary. They work for US.
Convicted criminals- why the hell should they have the same rights as a citizen in good standing. They should have bugger all.
The 'Beneficiary'- you exist at our expense. Stop whining and show some friggin' gratitude. YOU are taking food from our children's mouths.
The criminal huggers- go get a job as a Corrections Officer. Watch your world view rotate 180 degrees.
*OK, so it's alright to label us middle class- it follows that there must be an upper and a lower class. On this blog they are no longer underclass, lower socio-economic or whatever. Lower class says it all.

Life...
One feature of a long and *interesting* life is that you get to see it all.You see that generalizations tend to fit and that there are exceptions to EVERYTHING.
(Although exceptions are like rocking horse shit)
I have met teenage parents that are exemplary parents. Most shouldn't be permitted to raise houseplants.
I have met forty-something parents that couldn't raise a flag.
I have seen parents that did it all 'by the book'. Their kids were arseholes who needed euthanasia.
I have seen parents that had ALL the odds against them. They did what they could and their kids grew up fine. Their best was enough.
I saw others that didn't give a shit and their kids grew up fine anyway.
What can you do but your best?
Your best usually works.
Not trying usually doesn't.

Fair enough, I reckon!
JOB - URINE TEST Great idea!
Joe the average worker says; Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job.
I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.
I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their lazy butts, doing drugs, while I work.
Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?
So something has to change in this country — and soon!!!!!
Guess we could title that program,
‘Urine or You’re Out’

One rule for YOU and another for US
"Council authorities are blaming sabotage for a Featherston sewage spill that may have contaminated Lake Wairarapa.
Greater Wellington regional council today said a valve used to drain the Featherston oxidation ponds had been tampered with, resulting in sewage spilling into Donald's Creek which flowed into Lake Wairarapa..."
Now I live not too far from these third-world cesspits. The ponds are quite large and the sewerage treatment consists of being left to decompose and be eaten by ducks (ever wonder why I don't do the duck hunting thing?)
They are a plastic-lined affair, but unlike a swimming pool they seem to be exempt from any requirement to be fenced, although there is a seven-wire fence to keep the sheep out (this is the same council that spend our money on aerial photography to find illegal swimming pools).
Funny how a blow-up pool in a farm back yard may need a permit and approved fencing, but a couple of acres of plastic lined pond full of turds does not. Remember the recent farm tragedy.
So it's no problem for young bastards out exploring to get in. And open valves or gates that should be locked.
If this were a private company, they would be in the shit over this site being accessible and the control gear not being secured from tampering.
But why would the SWDC care? If the regional council fines them, it's only the ratepayers that will be picking up the tab...
Judge or a friggin' social worker?
"...Judge Epati told Mr Sutton: "He [Kurariki] needs to understand that he, number one, cannot go on using drugs because part of the rehabilitation is to get him off drugs so that he doesn't go back the way he started off."
Then he gave Kurariki a "final chance", before releasing him on bail with a stern warning..."
Well, I'm sure that's all settled then- a stern talking to!
This piece of excrement is ON PAROLE. THAT is the chance he was given.
The public demands that Judges lock away those who are not safe to have in public. Forget rehabilitation- this prick is a walking time bomb.
In summing up, the beak came out with this codswallop:
Yes- that is exactly what you SHOULD have done, you frickin' overpaid snivel servant. DO YOUR BLOODY JOB!!!

Police try to sort it- then the courts sabotage their efforts
"Mongrel Mob gang members forced a terrified neighbour and her two young children from their home, then ransacked it for nearly all its contents the next day..."
And so:
"...Fifty police officers, some of them armed, made dawn raids on seven houses in and around Pomare's Farmer Cres yesterday.
Ten patched gangsters and associates were arrested..."Then:
"...Most of them appeared in Lower Hutt District Court on a range of burglary, drug and intimidation charges.
As the gang members were bailed back to their homes, police said it was not safe for The Dominion Post to visit Farmer Cres last night. Police gave journalists an escort, while other police cars patrolled the area..."
You would have to wonder why the cops bother to get out of bloody bed in the morning!
Housing NZ- all gang members and associates to be evicted. Minister to put this into law.
Police- keep up the good work. WE appreciate you doing this.
'Justice'- DO what the public demand of their SERVANTS. Lock the shit up! Minister of Justice- make it happen.
NOW.
As an aside and ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the above-
It's a shame my mortgage doesn't allow me to have a 42" TV!

DNA and diminishing returns
Recidivist offenders.
So by simply creating a database from convicted offenders, the most good is gained.
There is NO NEED to capture the DNA of the whole nation! We all know that most crime is committed by the same group of criminals. By matching THEIR filthy DNA we can keep them out of circulation, thus keeping the public and their property safer.
As I said before, people should be able to opt in at their own expense and as Touchstone has pointed out, it's a good idea for the military to keep DNA records. I don't see why the can't be stored on the same database as long is it is partitioned.

DNA sampling

or more importantly- a DNA database- is something I believe to be a good idea. DNA matching is a very important crime-fighting tool.
IF and only IF the criteria for being added to this database are made crystal clear.
Firstly- you must be a criminal convicted of an offense punishable by imprisonment to make the database. Unless you decide for reasons of your own that you wish to be added to the database voluntarily (say for a scenario such as the possibility of disaster victim ID) . In that case the volunteer must bear the costs involved.
Secondly- If you have been ARRESTED for an offense punishable by imprisonment, a sample may be taken as evidence, but may not be added to the database until you are convicted. For people who need to be eliminated as suspects, samples are at the taxpayers expense and are destroyed when the case is resolved or a set period of time has passed.
Thirdly- All those fans of the Nanny State and those who tell us that DNA database is nothing to be feared by the law-abiding will of course be adding their DNA at their own expense..

Boy Racer Bollocks
They were a bunch of virgins who couldn't drive well enough to get into a sports driving club and didn't have the car/money to play with the real enthusiasts and collectors.
The above are the once that would be punished the most by car crushing and lets face it- most of us who have been woken up by a big bore exhaust and a wanky blowdown valve at 330 am would love to see car and occupants turned into spam in a can!
The problem has gone way beyond those fools and has more to do with the cellphone than the car. The problem is groups of lawless thugs and louts who use the power of text broadcasts to gather in groups too large to be readily policed when they inevitably go feral. Of course cars provide the mobility factor and entertain the morons with burnouts. THESE cars are disposable shitboxes and crunching them more likely would provide some kind of badge of honour amongst the knuckle-dragging fraternity.
So let's get away from cars and look to the REAL problem. Lawlessness, willful destruction of property, intimidation, trespass, offensive behavior, assault and so on. If you think these turds are poor misunderstood yoof who just need somewhere to play (at our expense) you have not had 300+ go feral outside your property as many I know have.
Now these offenses need no new laws to deal with them. What the police need are new tools and the direction to use them.
The good, old-fashioned water cannon is most effective in breaking up a mob. Rioting is no fun when you are drenched. Especially in a Christchurch winter and more so when OC has been injected into the water jet.
I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of 'tear gas' having been on the end of a good dose of it in training, however, I am uncomfortable about using it in residential areas where innocent can be affected.
There are several new tools available for crowd dispersal, one is sonic, this one uses a laser and the other uses microwaves to cause pain.
To use these, we will need a fast-reation unit and, of course, an armed support team to keep the little darlings away from the hardware.
Most of the little arseholes would have watched 'Jackass', so should know what a bean-bag baton round will do to you!

For once I beat Lindsay to it!
Will the recession affect the birth rate?
It won't go down unless WFF and the DPB are cut!More likely to go up as our serial breeders increase production...
The Law- everyone's resposibility
I saw this and was reminded of the oft-heard collectivist cry that 'crime in the community is a problem for ALL of us to take responsibility for'
Bullshit, of course. The great majority of us do not commit REAL crimes (ones with a victim)
What is true is that should be every able and willing persons duty to fight crime- and more importantly- we should have access to the tools to do so. The scrote in the link above should have been hit by tasers, marker spray, pepper spray, spring batons from all points of the compass! After the checkout operator unloaded a .38 into his guts!
While politicians and those in the ivory towers wring their hands about how to deal with the explosion in crime and lawlessness and cry 'But what to do?' there are many of us with at least a partial solution to the problem.
A bit of rough justice for the town ne'er-do-wells. Vandals doing community service in pink overalls and chains. Recidivist families run out of town. Pillory. The good old-fashioned thrashing with someone responsible on-hand to make sure the injuries weren't to permanent. Hard labour breaking rocks in the hot sun- in the middle of the town square. Shunning.
And more importantly- cutting off all funding to those who perpetuate the cycle of deadbeats, criminals and idlers.

I knew it was going to be a bit more than this when I saw the 15 meter fountain in the distance. Very pretty, but not when you have to wade in and shut it off. Against the odds, I got it shut off with nothing more than wet boots.
Looks like Mr Pump has broken loose and fallen down the hole. I'm glad MY work ended with shutting off the mains!

Fishing
I'm thinking of giving it a try.
Cheers!
Let sleeping dogs lie
I can't see the point of re-living pain felt many years ago. Some say it is therapeutic, but I believe that in most cases, time is the great healer.
Let the memories fade and the pain fades too. You may never forget but why beat yourself up by continually reminding yourself of the follies of youth.
Forward and onto better things is the way- don't look back!

Anyone else smell a large red rat?
Now the fact that he has pleaded guilty to the sin of misleading thieves is not the issue here.
I see yet another person who has protested against the late unlamented government appears to have had the microscope put on him. Another Tim Selwyn type of case.
For in the environment the apparatus set up, it isn't hard to have broken SOME law- and the state has the means, the time and your money to VERY thoroughly investigate your life.
Shame they don't do the same to the upper echelons of our criminal fraternity- or would that be too close to home...

Prick of the week

Former police inspector Ross Meurant
Someone who should know better than to open his big mouth and let stuff come out.
"...Former police inspector Ross Meurant says the armed offenders squad member who fired the shot that killed teenage courier driver Halatau Naitoko should be tried before a court..."
Now he of all people should know that first there is an inquiry into event, which will determine whether or not charges (and which ones) should be laid.
For the leftist retards who inevitably cry 'whitewash' these internal inquiries are run by a certain type of person who is hell-bent on finding fault. They are the hall monitors and prefects of the world- nasty, officious and pompous wannabe prats with delusions of adequacy and as likable as a Wolverine with diarrhea. (based on my experiences with these types in the services)
The correct comment for this twat to have made would be: "let's wait until we have the full story"

Bludgers, bastards and freeloaders in general
Freeloaders of the Day;The South Wairarapa Swimming Clubs (especially the bludgers in Greytown).
Now here is a sports body that REALLY wants us ratepayers to dig deep!
While the local rugby clubs get their grounds mown at the ratepayers expense, these clowns want a pool maintained with all the power, chemical and service costs paid for- so they can then monopolise the pools after 5pm when hot ratepayers (the poor bastards that actually fund this) get home from work and wouldn't mind a dip to cool down! Heaven forbid they could share the pool, by roping part of it off!
They obviously have 'contacts' within the local council as they get a grandstand build at the Featherston pool for about 80 grand, Thi swill get used on about two days a year, while the rest of the facility is in an advanced state of disrepair- the toilets look like those found in France!
Will any of these bludgers ever turn out for a working bee? No leave THAT- to other volunteer service groups- Lions, last time it got painted. Every man woman and child should have been down there with sandpaper and paintbrushes.
The Greytown mob wanted the ratepayers (from a town with approx. ratable properties) to fund a 50 meter covered and heated olympic frickin' pool!
Even the SWDC morons realized that this would be political suicide and politely told them to sod off and find the money themselves.
Now if I want a game of golf (I don't) I would be expected to dig ito my pocket and pay subs which fund the groundskeeper and the green upkeep. I don't see the fricking council paying for the green to be mowed. Nor do they provide mowing, weed-control or electricity to my gun club. I pay subs for that and attend frequent working bees- which is as it should be.
They could travel a bit further north and look to the shining example of the Carterton Swimming club, who run the pool for the council and keep an old pool pristine and well-staffed with friendy helpful lifeguards.
These fricken swimming clubs need to get their hands back into their own pockets and their face out of the public trough. And stop playing the 'what about the children' card.
If those who cry this one really gave a shit, they wouldn't hesitate to get their own chequebooks out!

And then I walked into the camping ground TV room...
Camping- it works
Wife lies about in the sun drinking wine and is happy.
Kids orbit the camping ground with other kids and are happy.
I get to drink beer all day and barbeque mammal-flesh twice a day.
Once a day I have to go the the supermarket for more beer, wine, ice and mammal-flesh and take the kids to the pool in lieu of bathing.
When you have all the gear, it works.
You will need:
300 litres of chilly bin capactity (that's an Esky to you chaps in the West Island) You will need more if you want to keep food cool.
A good lamp- the new LED lamps go for ages on a set of batteries.
Air mattresses and a blower that runs off the car battery
Duvets- forget that sleeping bags unlesss you like extreme bondage
A big tent -preferably two- one for the kids.
An automatic bug spray dispenser
MP3 players and car rechargers
PSP or equivalent for child distraction
Comfy chairs
lots of change

If you are Cactus Kate, order a minion to do the above.
It's very smooth and appeals to the girls.
It also knocks them on their arses!

Cafes to not bother with.

Last Thursday I posted on the Invercargill cafe owner that refuses to serve Jew's. Now another Cafe has joined in the rush to commit economic suicide (hopefully)
I said:
"...Well, however you may feel it IS his shop and he should be able to serve-or boot out whoever he likes. It's called property rights and they don't change because the property owner is a prize prick..."
And that holds true.
Principles like property rights and freedom of speech are unchanged just because you find what the others are saying is repugnant, racist or hateful. It's also a two-way street as those who don't like your opinions or actions are free to tell you that you are a complete and utter pick and to take their business elsewhere.
However, as has been rightfully pointed out- this is MY opinion on how things ought to be.
It's not how things are in law. Regardless of what I think of the law, we are currently stuck with it- and these 'hospitality providers' are in breech of the law.
A law which appears to be taking the 'softly, softly' approach.
Would that they do the same when you dare to open your business during Easter? Or put up a sign- 'No Maoris or Islanders' (the later had better be on a plyboard sheet big enough to cover the whole window!)

Another clever NZ inventor
...He plans to market his Sensorjet unit for around $250, with installation bringing all-up cost to between $300 and $400..."
Sounds great- simple and affordable.
Now what chance that people who won't spend two bucks on a smoke detector battery will actually buy one of these?
Of course we will all be paying for state houses to have these installed. Let the drunken fry-ups continue to roll...

Doing the right thing
This is something not too often seen these days. All too often the relatives and associates are shielding the suspect- even and especially when they know he is guilty as sin. This is particularly immoral when the crime is a repugnant one such as rape or murdering a baby(or two)
All things said, it can't be easy to turn in a child and this women is to be praised for doing the right thing.

Great Flying!
I hope somebody is right now buying this man a large bucket of beer!
Crush the boy racers AND the cars!

"Christchurch mayor Bob Parker is calling for the Government to tell the city how to deal with the problem of boy racers..."
This is the trouble with public roads. Every sod is free to use them and these pricks seem to have next to nothing to stop them abusing them.
No need to involve central government unless you really want the dickhead control SNAFU. Just tell the police to sort it out.
Resource them properly to do the job.
Then stand the hell out of their way and let the experts get on with their job.
Without the hand-wringing when some poor, disaffected Yoof get a richly deserved clip around the swede with a aluminium bar.
Without the whining when some kid with wealthy parents has to spend the weekend in the pokey with the dregs of 'TheVillage of the Damned'
With no sympathy when the japper shitbox brought on a student loan is reduced to a paperweight. And the loan is still outstanding.

Not the right way to deal with this
"An Invercargill cafe owner's refusal to serve Israelis on the basis of their nationality is a clear human rights breach, Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres says.
Sisters Natalie Bennie and Tamara Shefa were upset after being booted out of the Mevlana Cafe in Esk St yesterday by owner Mustafa Tekinkaya..."
Well, however you may feel it IS his shop and he should be able to serve-or boot out whoever he likes. It's called property rights and they don't change because the property owner is a prize prick.
Of course everyone who doesn't like what he has done is free to take their custom elsewhere, to tell him why and to persuade all their friends and acquaintances to do so.
His suppliers should also be free to stop supplying him, should they choose to do so.

What's new?
Looking backwards 10-20 years at the rate of progress and trying to project forward is always a bit of fun.
I have made a few predictions that panned out- most of which were scoffed at by 'industry experts'
Pre-paid mobile phones, huge growth in the computer gaming market, video phones, colour printers and the MP3 type music player were all things I had picked for the early 21st century (this was 20 years previous)
I got a few wrong- teletext was nobbled by the internet and a universal personal phone number hasn't happened yet.
It's not that there a re great new inventions coming onto the market- it's more a steady refinement of existing devices and the drop in price for these goods. In another decade, the old CRT tv will be as much an oddity as a wood cabinet black &white set. And today I read that 3-D tv is in development. That will probably arrive about the time I have replaced all my favorite movies with blu-ray!
So what are my picks for the upcoming hot items?
USB data stick systems- just plug into another computer or a dumb terminal and all your stuff is there.
LED panel lighting
Internet notebooks will take off like the mobile phones they will eventually replace- the ever decreasing size of these devices will drive the development of voice interface software.
Flexible LCD screens.

CONSIDERING charges!
There is no doubt about who did it, that this was an act of causing serious injury though sheer bloody stupidity.
What was the possum-brained prat thinking? (well- obviously he wasn't!)
And police are "considering laying charges."
Considering indeed- throw the book at him!
Future inventions
It appears I was a bit slow making this prediction.

Under Canvas
Camping sites that measure exactly one meter more than your tent or caravan.
Toilet and shower blocks of bare concrete that are about as clean as the average milking shed.
Surly caretakers.
Route marches to the nearest water/toilet/shower.
Living two meters away from the Addams Family (and cousins)
Bins overflowing with Lion Red bottles.
Flies for Africa.
A kitchen full of fat German tourists cooking lard.
Drunken Bacradi Breezer-belching teenagers talking (and screaming) at 105 decibels at 2am.
Did I mention the toilets- almost as filthy as those found in France?
Well, I found none of this at the Carterton Holiday Park - believe it-or not!
The grounds were like- well- a park. Plenty of shelter from sun and wind and well-groomed grass. We picked a site under one of those spiny fir trees for our tent (hint: birds can't roost in the outer branches of such trees!) We had room for a station wagon and a ute, plus had a large wooden picnic table out front of the tent. The grounds are next to large sports fields and a chilrdens playground (with a REALLY big slide)
Pete and Di, who run this example of what a camping ground SHOULD be and seldom is- were always helpful and friendly.
The toilets, showers and kitchen were always spotless. I have never seen such clean communal facilities outside of an Army barracks on inspection day! The showers required a $1 token for five minute- which gets around the problem of shower-hogging girlies (so says the wife) You can have a cold shower for free and at this time of year that is what I want-34 degrees C yesterday!
The office had a few basics for sale- washing powder and packets of cereal and tokens for the showers ($1 token for five minutes) but just outside the gate was a well-stocked dairy and there was a supermarket about 1km away.
The town is about 800 meters away and full of great restaurants, cafes and takeaways. Tasti Takaways do huge feeds of Fish & Chips and Chinese food for very reasonable prices and there is something for all budgets.
About 500 meters away is the local swimming pool and a swim may be had for the sum of $2.00 The pool is a outdoor one and much nicer than the run-down holding ponds that pass for pools in the South Wairarapa.
With small children, this camping ground worked well for us, as it was small, well-fenced and we could easily keep track of straying kids. For me, I could travel to work each day and leave the family to it and return each night with fresh supplies of food, drink and ice.
If the weather obliges I shall return in a couple of weeks!

More on climate
The Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change
‘Global warming’ is not a global crisis
We, the scientists and researchers in climate and related fields, economists, policymakers, and business leaders, assembled at Times Square, New York City, participating in the 2008 International Conference on Climate Change,
- Resolving that scientific questions should be evaluated solely by the scientific method;
- Affirming that global climate has always changed and always will, independent of the actions of humans, and that carbon dioxide (CO2) is not a pollutant but rather a necessity for all life;
- Recognising that the causes and extent of recently observed climatic change are the subject of intense debates in the climate science community and that oft-repeated assertions of a supposed ‘consensus’ among climate experts are false;
- Affirming that attempts by governments to legislate costly regulations on industry and individual citizens to encourage CO2 emission reduction will slow development while having no appreciable impact on the future trajectory of global climate change. Such policies will markedly diminish future prosperity and so reduce the ability of societies to adapt to inevitable climate change, thereby increasing, not decreasing, human suffering;
- Noting that warmer weather is generally less harmful to life on Earth than colder:
Hereby declare:
- That current plans to restrict anthropogenic CO2 emissions are a dangerous misallocation of intellectual capital and resources that should be dedicated to solving humanity's real and serious problems.
- That there is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity has in the past, is now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.
- That attempts by governments to inflict taxes and costly regulations on industry and individual citizens with the aim of reducing emissions of CO2 will pointlessly curtail the prosperity of the West and progress of developing nations without affecting climate.
- That adaptation as needed is massively more cost-effective than any attempted mitigation and that a focus on such mitigation will divert the attention and resources of governments away from addressing the real problems of their peoples.
- That human-caused climate change is not a global crisis.
Now, therefore, we recommend—
- That world leaders reject the views expressed by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as popular, but misguided works such as An Inconvenient Truth.
- That all taxes, regulations, and other interventions intended to reduce emissions of CO2 be abandoned forthwith.
Agreed at New York, 4 March 2008.

A New Market
Not quite the prohibition era style, but neighborhood garages that have been decked out as bars.
Attracting a selective clientele of locals- word of mouth only, these bars provide what the pubs and clubs cannot.
A place free from louts, bogans and thugs.
A place where you can hear somebody across the room talk.
A safe place to have a drink amongst friends.
Quite probably somewhere where you can smoke a cigarette without a trip out into the cold!
Drinks marked up a bit from the supermarket price- not a 300% markup. The wine, beer and spirits may even (shock-horror) home-made!
That charming Kiwiana decor - the style of the real Kiwi bach- no two items match! Carpet squares salvaged from the dump over the concrete floor. An old piano with a couple of keys missing. A mangy stags head with an old bra over one antler. Ashtrays stolen from pubs back in the days when they had them. An old dog sleeping next to a permit-free pot-bellied stove in the corner.
The more ambitious may have an old pool table and the Tv that was retired when the owner got an LCD. Only for when the rugby or cricket is on, of course!
There is an outdoors toilet that may or may not be connected to the sewers, depending on the skills of the relaative that illegally onstalled it.
This is nothing new- I knew of one years ago in a town that will not be named. This was a house brought by a bunch of blokes who wanted somewhere to go for a drink and to watch the game. The only pubs in the area were populated by the local PWT and knuckle-draggers, so they made their own. You had your own lock-up fridge and it was BYO, thus totally legal. They paid subs which covered rates, power and a cleaner.
A great arrangement!

Gentile Tramping

Cactus Kate was written a piece on her idea of wilderness travel.
I totally agree- I have often said that any fool can rough it and that the outdoors are far more enjoyable when you take a few comforts along- and don't have to carry heavy things!
She provides a link to an Aussie outfit, but we also have such things here.
It's really just reinventing the wheel- it used to be called 'going on safari'
Much more pleasant than tramping!
If only we could still get coolies with a work ethic nowadays- that's what happens when you do away with flogging!

In a nick of time
If this piece of refuse is in for murder and rape he shouldn't be up for release in any case. He should have been ashes some years ago.
Those feral cats are a bloody nuisance- they thrive around all institutions- prisons, hospitals, army camps. For some reason all the other vermin get poisoned but the cats seem to escape- or perhaps they are just more obvious.
This one had at least been useful.
It's helped make a scumbag show his true colours .
Suspect..
A brave 12-year old girl gets five younger siblings out of a fire. The media- rightly- loves this stuff.
And the parents? What were they doing...
I would guess charges are forthcoming.
More bleeding-heart bollocks
'Desperate need' for detox centres in major cities
"Waking up cold and sweaty in a police cell while coming off drugs or alcohol is a sobering experience, in more ways than one.
Not only for the people being arrested, but for the police officers who have to deal with them regularly.
Detoxification centres where people can sober up or come off drugs safely before appearing in court are desperately needed, says Michelle Dianne Kidd, who works for Lifewise, formerly known as Methodist Mission Northern, at Auckland District Court..."
These facilities used to exist and were known as 'Drunk Tanks'
Where all the drunks and druggies were tossed, to spend the night in their own vomit and piss. A great incentive to those who could and would learn that this was extremely unpleasant and that public drunkenness should be refrained from.
It must be remembered that in order to gain entry to this establishment, you usually had to attract the attention of the constabulary. Wobbling up the street singing might work- depending on what sort of a shift PC Plod had so far had, but loutish and offensive behavior made a trip to the cells near a certainty. A polite and respectful drunk would often be offered the choice of a cell or the city mission but would usually avoid the communal accommodation.
Through a night in a cesspit with the dregs of city life and a refreshing cold shower in the morning, courtesy of a fire hose- one learns that actions have CONSEQUENCES. A lesson that is sadly seldom taught today- until one goes way too far and the consequences are extreme.
Usually for some other poor sod. (Thanks for the reminder about that MK!)

The Honours List
It might actually have some merit if you removed:
- Those getting an award for doing their job- news flash- you are actually MEANT TO do your job well- and you get paid for doing so!
- Sportsmen- they already get trophies, awards and prizes for winning events.
- The Military- they already have their own honour awards- they are called medals.
- Services to country music- Do I even need to say why this is sooo wrong!!!

Other solutions
Now given that the Arabs want them gone (preferably dead), the left-dominated media condemns them for daring to fight back against a mere few thousand rocket attacks and the felching rimjaws of the UN want them to likewise disappear.
Would another country with lots of underused land invite the whole country to pack up and move there?
Like New Zealand?
We could do a lot worse that to welcome a nation of hard-working go-getters to relocate to our mostly empty spaces. Look what they did in a desert in sixty years! It would be a huge task and would take some years to complete but all things are possible. Like surviving with bomb-toting pychos all around your homeland!
With there wealth and workers plus help from all the arseholes who want them gone from the middle east- dig deep you scumbags and put it where your mouths are!- new cities would soon be built along with all the needed infrastructure. If we went with this idea- we could surely can the RMA!
We would also have one kick-arse army and a real air force!
And last but not least- all the ingrate rag-heads living here now would have plenty of spare room back in Palestine- back with the faithful!
