There can be NO reason for censoring news that does not affect national security.

I believe it has less to do with fear of 'copycats' and more to do with taboo and superstition. People are uncomfortable with talking about suicide, so it has been decreed that all talk in the media is to be suppressed.

Do we put a blanket ban on reporting child abuse in the media, too? That is just as disturbing.

How about censoring all stories of death through driving badly, to avoid 'copycats'?

It just don't make sense...

The bastard tree from hell

As you can see by the profusion of wires- this could end badly. To make things interesting, the tree is very dead and this is a high wind area. The spring gales are about to start and 120 km winds are the norm here. (we get trains blown off the tracks in this part of the world)

The cutoff bits are where my 8 metre ladder ended- I cut them with a saw lashed to the end of a 3 metre pole.

I finally came up with a plan for rigging a gin pole to remove this last 10% of the branches and to lower the rest without smashing house, wires or next doors garden.

This is next weekends mission...

Here is a wild idea- hold those who cause problems whist pissed completely responsible for their actions. Bill them for police and medical costs for being a friggin' drunken nuisance, wasting taxpayers money and apply the full penalties of law for any criminal acts!

Make no mistake here. These wowsers are on the road to prohibition- if you doubt that- look to what is happening to those who's pleasure is the tobacco leaf...

It appears the coroner doesn't have the balls to to say WHERE the problem REALLY is. And it's not with All NZ parents.

How about targeting those who are by far more likely to fit the profile? Anything else is a waste of resources (all in the name of being PC)

Hungry kids without shoes or raincoats

So if this is such a big deal- take them from their feckless 'parents' and stick them in an orphanage.

If their lives are so shitty, they would be better off if the orphanage were brought back. We now know what went wrong in these institutions and can now establish the checks and balances to prevent the worst of these excesses- by all accounts far less than what happens out their now with the loving whanau.

That's dealing with what we have now.

For the future, we need to cease funding the lower classes breeding.

Scrying

I have noticed that a certain testicularly-challenged variety of Troll likes to label all who comment on matters martial to be 'Armchair Warriors'- because 'they know the type'.

Isn't that clever! You know absolutely NOTHING about a poster and can tell they are phony!

I put my powers of divination to the test and scrying the Troll from afar, I see a pallid fat boy, prematurely balding who lives on Diet Coke, Cheese Balls and Mars Bars. His abode is a squalid bedsit or more likely, a room in his long-suffering parents home. He doesn't like to go outside.

He has never actually met a real live blogger and never will be invited to do do. Same goes for meeting a woman.

For that, the gene pool is thankful.

Otago regional council wants an alternative means of killing southlanders

Pussification of the outdoors

A new hut at Big Bend in the Orongorongos. Or is that hall? Note the solar panel on the roof. When I started tramping it was unlined corrugated steel walls and sack & pole bunks.

DOC could have put in five steel-framed barns or even more of these pole-framed barns for the same price- even give the cost of insulating and interior cladding and fitout.

It seems that these government departments love the gold-plated options. But other peoples money is so easy to spend...
