Myth- We need MMP, so all views are represented.
Meaning minor parties- well, what ACTUALLY happens is they whore themselves to the main party to get in power and out go their principles (assuming they had any)
The party you supported and their policies have taken a trio to toilet town- along with your vote.
You see, when we voted MMP in, we underestimated how flexible a politicians morals and principles actually were.
It's all about power at any cost and the muggins voters be damned!
My opinions on matters of the day that, generally, have pissed me off. Being described as a 'Surly Curmudgeon', by those who meet me on a good day, I have a poor regard for the human species. This is my place for my free speech- not bloody yours. Crap under your own rock.

How to do the job
The new Cashel Mall opens in the Village of the Damned.
This area was the only bit of retail worth a damn in the whole central city, anyway.
I have said all along that the way to go, if you must build on a peat jelly, is to go light and low- and cheap. These containers are perfect for this, as are light steel-framed and corrugated-steel prefab buildings. A bit of paint and trim and they don't have to look like an industrial area.
Could you see the powers-that-be ever consent to letting a developer to make a container mall anywhere else in NZ? Thought not. I bet they weren't keen on it for Christchurch, either.
Nor would the save-Christchurch for the Neanderthals brigade that want all the old stone crappers reconstructed- at somebody else's expense, of course.
Now how about a container cathedral?
Beats a 50 million dollar symbol of the church's vanity...

Clueless- as usual
"The Masterton District Council is planning to tackle youth unemployment - but still hasn't decided how to do it..."
Then there is the observation:
"...Councillor David Holmes said he had taken on work experience students in the past, and it was a huge commitment for an employer. A lot of good people were out there, but there were "a lot of people who don't want to work"..."
Easy- remove the idler's benefits!
See- I know how to tackle it! Won't be a 100% fix, but what is?

Probably breaking a few Aussie laws
The
Pope and Julia Gillard are on the same stage at the Sydney Opera House in front
of a huge crowd.
The Pope leans towards Ms Gillard and said,
"Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person
in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display,
but will go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and
rejoice!"
Gillard replied, "I seriously doubt that
with one little wave of your hand? Show me!"
So the
Pope backhanded the bitch!

Only in (or from) Masterton
"An armed robber fled with $1200 worth of model emergency vehicles after holding up a model shop yesterday.
Police said a man brandished a firearm at 1.30pm in model vehicle shop Dave's Den, on the corner of High St and Hospital St in Dannevirke.
A number of model vehicles, valued at about $1200, were taken before the offender fled in a white car. No one was hurt during the hold-up..."

An example to all politicians
Because the line between 'Politician' and 'Dictator' is getting a bit blurred, these days.
Take note that you can build a massive force to protect your arse, spending the wealth of a nation to do do- and you still get dragged out of a rat-hole and killed like the rabid dog you are! Because eventually, people reach the end of their endurance and decide they have nothing to lose.
We have a ways to go yet- but who knows what the future will bring...

Drama
The street is locked down at the moment and we have been advised to stay away from windows.
More to follow IF I find out what is happening...

Skippy gives her the bash
"A woman has suffered cuts to her neck, ear and back after a terrifying attack by a kangaroo while she was walking her dogs through bushland in Western Australia..."
Is there anything there that isn't poisonous, ravenous or generally out to stomp on, swallow or just tear your guts out?
I hear the animals are quite dangerous too...

Just wondering
...if anyone knows the suburbs/streets to avoid if looking to buy in Napier.
I know where I would LIKE to live, but unless I win the big one...

Not to far from the truth
Got a problem with mindless 'protesters' trying to invade your property?
The good folks at Hornady are now selling a specialist ammunition to deal with these varmints!
Here it is.

Home again, home again
Two attractions to see in Napier:
The Faraday Centre
Napier prison
After doing the tour through the old prison, there is a great garden opposite- it was the old quarry that kept the inmates gainfully employed making little rocks from big rocks. Something every good prison should have!

A parting shot at porkers
Just before I take my leave- look what WE are paying for (not the hospital boards- us the taxpayers)
Self-inflicted medical conditions- just as bad as drunken fighting and injury, the affects of substance abuse and idiots doing 'extreme' sports!

Lair, Liar!
"...Masoe joined Parliament's other cleaners in Labour's caucus room today to push for a $15 an hour minimum wage and to remind politicians that poverty does exist in this country.
She earns the current minimum wage, $13.50, and says that's about $453.34 in the hand a week.
By the time she pays $250 in rent, $90 for power and $70 for petrol to get to and from work, Masoe has about $43 left to pay for groceries.
That usually consists of budget canned spaghetti and baked beans, cheap bread, oats, noodles and margarine.
"This is what our low wages can afford. It's budget food, it's not healthy," she told MPs and fellow Service and Food Union representatives this afternoon...."
Follow the link and take a look at the 'Poor starving cleaner'
Also, no mention of the family tax credit welfare package of about $370 a week (four teens and minimum wage)

The hard part is getting the material
...The rest is relatively straightforward engineering.
Of course when the government wants an incident so serious they can seize power- the materials could be forthcoming.
An old warehouse, somewhere in a city and surround the device with drums of nuclear waste, to make it nice and dirty.
A timer counts down and the firing circuit is now active and awaiting a cell phone call or the secondary back-up timer to finish counting down. A cordite charge fires and a hollow slug of Uranium 235 slams onto the target at 300 metres per second. Microseconds later, a city starts to die and a nation is locked down.
All according to plan...

The Phoenix Reich
Damn, I have writing projects backed up so far...
This one involves a USA in the near future that has more or less mirrored the path of Germany from the 20's to the 40's.
The administration, knowing they were to be ousted at the polls, engineer a crisis that dwarfs 9/11. Elections are suspended and whats left of a tattered constitution is now cast to the winds.
The story is about how small groups and individuals fight back- in what ways they can...
