My- thats a big one!

.375 H&H magnum

I got to fire one today, through a very nice Steyr-Mannlicher

It was an older model than the ones on their website, but still a superior piece. So well made that it felt like firing a 30-06!

So now I've been there, done that AND fired the Elephant gun!

(Not nearly as punishing as shooting slugs through my 12g coach gun)

NOOOOO! The real elephant gun is a .500 Nitro Express!
Mannlichers are nice, though. Very.

There is a .416 Rigby at Carterton that is tempting me.

Even iff ammo is $150 a box!

Very nice OB the 375 is a respectable cartridge , however the 458 is ,to my mind , better . Just use a 350 grn. bullet not the 500grn. , thinking about your shoulder .

Didn't NASA use one of those to send Apollo 11 up?

375 H&H is a very versatile cartridge as it can be handloaded down for antelope sized game with superb results. Marginal [very] for elephant, but OK+ for lion.

416 Rigby is the logical step up and is highly highly desirable: relatively flat shooting and very hard hitting. [458 Winchester has huge hitting power but the trajectory is rather banana shaped and so is short-range only.]

How much for the Rigby, Oswald? And you could always hand-load after buying the first box anyway.

It's been on the shelf for years and is a 'make an offer' one.

I will go back and have a closer look when I get a chance.
