What colour is the sky on YOUR planet?

"...Last week, the Tauranga-headquartered business unveiled $85,000 two, three and four-bedroom models with the same footprint, accepted by the Department of Building and Housing (DBH) for Christchurch earthquake victims, and said the first place was up to show an 83sq m temporary family house.

But the designs drew criticism for lacking aesthetic or environmental attention.

Andy Watson of Christchurch, a architect graduate, criticised Jennian's designs, saying they offered no flair and little environmentally.

"It would be worth pursuing what criteria the DBH used to choose this design. It obviously has absolutely no design criteria and unfortunately Christchurch is going to be left with a bunch of very ugly, useless boxes in a couple of years time," said Watson, of MAP Architects..."

Step this way for a sound slapping.

This is temporary accommodation, designed to be assembled for minimal cost and in a short time. They will always have a future use as cabins, batches, rentals and for the great many who don't give a stuff as long as it is a roof over their heads.

Is the little whiney bitch pissed that his design wasn't picked?

Personally, I would be happy with a fitted out shipping container, if the alternative was a leaky house with no working dunny, heating and bits falling off it, going into a VOTD winter.

One of the reasons we get walked over

Is because of public bloody apathy to all matters political.

I was one of the other members of the public at these meetings- we numbered about the same as the one the chap in the link attended.

$17 megabucks on infrastructure works, a thirty year plan and just over a dozen members of the public bother to take an interest. (It was actually not a bad plan)

It's my opinion that folks have been conditioned by the media to switch off to all matters political 'because they can't change anything, anyway'.

Time to snap out of that mindset- because the powers-that-be are working that to their advantage!

Don't you hate the meddling state

"...The Land Transport Safety Authority takes a dim view of any roadside signs that could distract drivers. The regulations are pretty clear: "A person must not install on a road, or in or on a place visible from a road, a sign, device or object that is not a traffic control device, but that may be mistaken for a traffic control device."...

...Unfortunately, the Labour Party still didn't get it. General secretary Chris Flatt huffed that it was all a dastardly plot by National Party bloggers and right-wing groups to ruin the campaign. "Any reasonable person would see that the nature of the writing and the `vote Labour' on there indicates they're not traffic control devices," he insisted, and vowed party supporters would continue using the signs, though they had been told to be more cautious near roads..."

Now don't you just hate it when silly little regulations interfere with your plans.

I mean, you KNOW that in the real world no harm will come from what you do- and your great idea is torpedoed by a technicality in law.

Suck, doesn't it.

I could ALMOST fell sorry for Liarbore IF THEY HADN'T INFLICTED SO MUCH OF THIS LEGISLATION ON US ALL!!!

But they did and so do Liarbore-Lite.

All this legislative stifling to save us from ourselves suddenly collides with their grand idea and its's unfair!

Yes- it is! Folks like me have been complaining about this sort of bullshit for years, while you smarmily imposed more and more restrictions on what we were permitted to do with our lives, money and time- for the greater good.

So eat shit and suck it up!

Rotten eggs

"...A jumbo 1kg egg customers were used to seeing at The Warehouse was no longer offered, because of lower demand and community support for its removal, The Warehouse's Nick Tuck said. "We received feedback from customers that it was not the politically correct thing to place an egg of that size in front of a child..."

Did you hand-wringing fucks ever consider that the big egg could be shared? That it does not have to be consumed in one sitting?

That it's none of your friggin' business if someone does want to scoff the whole lot in one go?

The biggest lie of the last century

Was that Hitler and the Nazi's were right-wing.

A long article here, but well worth a read.

Sub-Calibre

"New Zealand embassy staff in Argentina have visited a former top public servant being held in a Buenos Aires jail accused of trying to smuggle five kilograms of cocaine in a false-bottomed suitcase..."

Top public servant= naive and stupid.
It takes a donkey to be tricked into becoming a drug mule. If someone this gullible is the best the public service can attract with their inflated salaries- best we get the axe out and send them all fruit-picking, where they can try and learn an honest living!

"...Armstrong is the former deputy chief executive of the Maori Language Commission. She had been a contractor at Wellington Maori education and language company Haemata since February..."

Taking care of business

"An attack by the New Zealand SAS which killed a group of Taleban fighters responsible for the death of a Kiwi soldier was not a "revenge killing", says Defence Minister Wayne Mapp..."

The whole 'revenge' angle is a media beat-up.

It's just taking care of business- what they are in that shit-hole to do.

But it's nice when business and pleasure coincide...

VOTD damage

Some great shots of the cliffs of Bank's peninsula.

I always said folks live under or on the edge of a cliff were barking mad.

Mind you, to be fair-I used to climb them...

Not really better late than never

"...Justice Christine French sentenced Malcolm George Chaston, 40, to preventive detention when he appeared in the High Court at Rangiora this afternoon for the knife murder of 27-year-old Pickering on February 8, last year....

...He had a total of 17 prior offences, seven of them violent and two sexual. These extended over 25 years..."

Under 'Three Strike' this shit-head would have been out of circulation. THIS is why we need Three Strikes (that and because we are too soft to execute the fuckers)

Was it something they ate?

Looks like the Tandoori Palace down Ferry Rd (VOTD) is still in business...

Village of the Damned at it again

You do have to wonder if this is quite over yet.

I'm of two minds on this. There are many people I'm hoping are OK and many that I'm waiting for a house to fall on...

When bureaucracies attack

"Earthquake refugee villages will be built in eastern Christchurch next month, with the Government considering hiring security guards to keep the peace..."

News flash- You ALREADY have a group of paid enforcers of the peace, known as 'Police'...

Cretins...

Heavy Metal

So a school has now allowed ugliness enhancements.

As far as I am concerned, anyone who pays money to get metal stuck through their face for the hell of it is as mad as a snake!

As for bloody great rings through snouts and lips- are they rooting up the garden at home? Could be, as I see quite a few porkers sporting this sort of hardware.

It's not clever, does nothing for the looks and it sure as hell doesn't make you an 'individual', 'express your individuality' or make a fashion statement other than you will willingly make yourself look like one of Dr Frankenstein's creations.

Use the money to buy some decent skincare products*.

Another one untouched by the ravages of intelligence

"...It was alleged the teenager took the sneakers from The Warehouse and was being spoken to by the store's security staff when he leapt over a railing, falling two storeys..."

All for Warehouse shoes.

Oh well, another boy for Darwin...

PT Barnum was right

"Real estate records come and go with startling frequency and this $US6 million (NZ$7.65 million) sale might not sound like much of a record, until you find out Planet Calypso is a fictional place on the Entropia Universe social gaming site.

Yes, somebody has actually spent $SU6 million on thin air..."

More here:

Yes, there is a sucker born every minute.

So...wretched crustacean... will you now speak of your troop movements?

Dietary drama queens

Now the 'poor' are reduced to eating dog food. As if we haven't heard that one before.

A quick check of Countdowns on-line store shows that budget pet food is 91 cents, while budget baked beans are 75 cents for a 400 g can.

So it's not a strictly financial choice here.

I suspect a bit of drama-queening going on. Or they actually like dog food.

I'm thinking they need neutering, chaining up and registering, too...

Taking care of business

Zed takes out the trash- again!

Fair

"Clayton Weatherston did not get a fair trial because the media facilitated an attack on the law itself - the defence of provocation - even while he was giving evidence, the Court of Appeal has been told..."

Getting stabbed 200 times is not 'fair'.

Shit like Weatherston should thank their lucky stars that the like of myself don't get listened to by our political masters.

Or he would have been swinging in the breeze, hanging from a length of hemp rope...

Ingrates

"Petronella Nyamangwanda escaped Zimbabwe for a better life but she has ended up living in a dingy Lower Hutt house, struggling to make ends meet for the past decade..."

I have heard this story many times.

Someone gets out of a third world shithole and complains about their lot in NZ. Was it REALLY so bad where they came from? That is the question I would ask.

And I have no time for the natives who rejected the evil white man and his ways and then come wanting to live here, because they have fucked a previously prosperous country up...

I was skeptical, but...

Self-inflating mattresses actually work! I didn't think something so thin would keep my arse from the rocks I was sleeping on, but it did.

Now to replace my mummy sleeping bag- it's warm but you feel like you have been swallowed by a giant anaconda!

What so many don't know

Difference between Democracy and Republic, in brief:

Democracy:
a:
government by the people; especially :rule of the majority.

b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.

Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences

Republic
a: a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president : a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government.

b: a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law.

Democracy and Republic are often taken as one of the same thing, but there is a fundamental difference. Whilst in both cases the government is elected by the people, in Democracy the majority rules according to their whims, whilst in the Republic the Government rule according to law. This law is framed in the Constitution to limit the power of Government and ensuring some rights and protection to Minorities and individuals.

I have often been accused of being 'undemocratic'

Damned right!

The RMA is in direct opposition to reconstruction

"Lyttelton Port of Christchurch has been ordered to stop dumping earthquake rubble in the harbour in breach of its consent..."

The grey-shoe wearers are doing what they do best. Fucking up life and business for the productive. Their precious consents have been breached and they take this sort of carry-on personally. After all, consents and red tape validate their flawed existence.

I say throw the council fuckers in the harbor- or their own failed sewerage system...

Dead crim- best kind

Police shooting victim laid to rest

Excuse me? VICTIM?

What a load of arse. The only victim is the poor sod who will now be under the microscope for doing his duty and putting a rabid animal down.

This trash reporting spits in the face of every TRUE victim of crime...

A brave new world

The new government department, CERA- tasked with rebuilding Christchurch, has hit the ground running!

Effective immediately throughout the Canterbury province, personal and company taxes are halved, in a bid to retain key staff and promote business growth. GST is reduced to 10%.

In another unexpected move, All RMA requirements are suspended on any reconstruction, demolition or land remediation work.

More breaking news here.
