Passengers.

You to need to shoulder some of the blame for your misfortune. YOU get in the car with them, usually knowing full well they may have been drinking and probably can barely drive in a straight line dead sober, in any case. YOU do not chastise them when they drive like a loon- rather encourage them. YOU are happy for them to drive pissed, knowing that YOU won't be looking at a conviction or even a censure if they are caught.

From the story, it would appear that this was the case.

This is the sort of thing that will keep on happening when we live in a world were concepts such as responsibility and consequences are trivialized.

And it's not going to change anytime soon...
