It starts at home

"The Government has no plans to step up to the global standard for foreign aid contributions, despite a new report urging it to do so.

A peer review by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development found New Zealand's foreign aid was down 4 per cent in 2009 and at $407 million, was the lowest of 24 developed countries in the Development Assistance Committee.

New Zealand's aid was equivalent to 0.28 per cent of gross national income, well short of the agreed United Nations target of 0.7 per cent..."

I have a better proposal.

Foreign aid is canned. You get NOTHING from us.

We are broke from fixing Christchurch. It may be the Village of the Damned, but it's a New Zealand Village of the Damned.

The major chunk of the funds will be reinsurance money from overseas so foreign currency flowing in. This event is the best economic news in years - a significant recovery of money previously exported to be spent at home with no debt issues.
