"People drunk in public should be fined as part of a crackdown on binge-drinking, police and the hospitality industry say.
Hospitality Association chief executive Bruce Robertson said it was unfair that pubs could lose their liquor licences and have staff fined for serving drunk patrons while there was no penalty for people drinking to excess.
"I would like to see people fined for being drunk in public. It is now socially unacceptable to drink and drive - we need to make it socially unacceptable to be intoxicated in public..."

The problem is not being drunk in public- it's being offensive and disorderly and there are existing charges to cover this. Pissing and puking on doorways, fighting and being destructive or abusive- these are acts that should land you in the local drunk tank.

It's your right to get pissed to beat the band.
