A century ago, children of the poor ate gruel.
Now they are fed instant noodles.
Nothing has changed...
My opinions on matters of the day that, generally, have pissed me off. Being described as a 'Surly Curmudgeon', by those who meet me on a good day, I have a poor regard for the human species. This is my place for my free speech- not bloody yours. Crap under your own rock.

So don't do crimes
"In issuing Elijah Akeem Whaanga, 21, his second strike, Judge Tony Adeane told the Hastings man his two "street muggings" that netted "trophies of minimal value" meant his outlook was now "bleak in the extreme".
"When you next steal a hat or a cellphone or a jacket or a skateboard you will be sent to the High Court and there you will be sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment without parole," Judge Adeane said..."
Now the usual suspects are whining like a bus-full of pommy tourists:
"...Professor Warren Bucklands of Auckland University's Faculty of Law said Whaanga's case made a mockery of its promoters' claim that it would target only "the worst of the worst".
"Whaanga's case is an inevitable consequence of the way in which the legislation was drafted and, what's more, was known to Parliament when it was passed," he said..."
I think the law is working as intended. If these criminal scum can't learn (at the expense of at least three VICTIMS) they are put out of the way of decent people.
This young thug has the means to stop a lengthy jail term in his own hands. Just stop mugging people.
It is infuriating to see the hand-wringers trivialize a violent robbery. The fact that the items stolen are of little value is of no real consequence. The actions are what warrants jail time. Can these blinkered fools not see how if this thug continues down this path, it is only a matter of time before he ups the ante and causes a serious injury or death?

Nothing really changes in the Village of the Damned
"Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) medical officer of health Dr Alistair Humphrey said it was internationally documented that cold, damp homes have ‘‘an actual physical effect on your health’’.
It is also well-understood that physical health overlaps with mental health and that ‘‘people living in a stressful environment often present with physical manifestations’’.
‘‘Uncertainty is anxiety-inducing and cold winters in cold homes can genuinely cause real physical problems,’’ Humphrey said.
Physical health issues usually start once the temperature inside a house drops below 16 degrees Celsius..."
Sounds much like renting in Christchurch 20 years ago. Cold, damp uninsulated and overpriced shit-holes with hopelessly inadequate heating.
I had a crack in one room that grass grew through from the outside in one place. Drying clothes outside was impossible in the winter and going to bed for warmth was the only alternative to a state of intoxication.
So- what has changed?

Nothing but the best when it's a friggin' socialist
"Baguettes are a very serious business, and only the very best are served to the French president.
The privilege of baking for the leader of the nation is the prize in the Grand Prix de la Baguette de la Ville de Paris (Best Baguette of Paris) competition at the Chambre Professionnelle des Artisans Boulangers Patissiers in Paris..."
But then, I hear the French president is not the most popular chap in Frogland:
(Hat Tip: Crusader Rabbit)
Perhaps he could tell all the unhappy folk to bugger off and eat cake while he enjoys a baguette with stinky cheese.
It worked so well the last time the powers-that- be used that line...

Yeah, right...
"People dreaming of travelling to Mars now have the chance by taking a one-way trip on a Dutch reality TV show.
The show’s production company, called Mars One, is seeking people over 18 with strong health, survival skills and a reasonable grasp of English.
The first four amateur astronauts would be expected to land on Mars in 2023 and would be tasked with establishing the first human colony there..."
The chances of this actually happening are about the same as finding intelligent life there. If Mars were to be colonized by reality tv wannabes, Mars will still be devoid of any form of intelligent life!
People wanting to apply for a position really need to talk to me about this offer I have on magic beans...

Life should mean LIFE
"The man found guilty today of murdering a Christchurch school girl and then torching her family's home has killed before..."
Another kid killed thanks to soft-cock liberals and their policies. Thanks very friggin' much!

Try Harder
"Two prisoners have died in suspected suicides in Christchurch prisons in three weeks, sparking independent investigations by the Corrections Inspectorate..."
Not good enough.
Each cell needs to be fitted with a stout hook, a wobbly stool and a length of strong rope.

False Flag Operations
NO, I don't think so.
While some of those in power are quite capable of ordering such a thing to further their pet causes, it simply is not necessary.
All they need do is spin and exploit the random acts of evil that will happen. HAve a contingency plan in place and as soon as someone goes nuts somewhere and stacks up bodies, these fuckers are exploiting the misery of other to their own ends.
-We NEED to ban firearms.
-We NEED to search without a warrant.
-We NEED to detain indefinitely.
-We NEED to forget about Habeas Corpus.
-We NEED to have compulsory ID
-We NEED to DNA sample EVERYONE...
You get the picture?
While the powers-that-be were pissed that the Boston murderers were not WASP Tea-Party NRA members, all is not lost. Just brush over the Islam connection and clamp down on Vets, patriots, preppers, church-goers and supporters of the Constitution.
(NOTE- why is a NZ'r going on about USA issues?- guess where most of my viewers hail from. And if the USA falls- we go down too- like it or not!)

Yet again
"A four-month-old baby has died after suffering serious injuries at a Wairoa house.
Police are investigating how the baby boy was hurt at the home last Saturday and would not elaborate on the nature of the injuries..."
Guessing the profile of the killer will be about a hard as profiling who set off he latest bomb off overseas...

Seventy years ago today
The Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto fought back. Initially, the resistance probably had less weaponry than I have.
But they held off as tough an opponent as you could get. An army well trained, equipped and seasoned in urban warfare.
How would this have panned out if the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto were armed with AR-15's, long-range hunting rifles, a pistol for all who would hake up arms and ammo, food and survival goods caches all through the city?
A different outcome, I believe. Especially if similar uprisings sprung up all over europe simultaneously.
But then, if the citizens of Europe were armed like the patriots of the USA- would this tragic piece of history have ever occurred?

Myopia
Nasa has detected a planet 1200 light years away that is in the zone for 'life as we know it'
http://www.stuff.co.nz/science/8571411/Nasas-planet-discovery-the-best-yet
News like this is buried deep and you have to look hard for it. It's not so long since finding a planet around a distant star with a telescope was thought to be impossible.
In the USA where this has happened, it's ironic that so many cannot see what is happening right under their noses...

Waiting for the inevitable backlash
"A Lower Hutt school is combating a lack of interest in reading among its more rambunctious pupils by starting a boys-only book club.
Randwick School has nearly 40 pupils aged between 5 and 13 in its new club, which sprang from principal Simonne Goodall reading teaching material that said boys had little interest in books.
After announcing the club idea to her school of 155 pupils during assembly, she was "told off" by a younger member of her intended audience.
"He said, you need to know that lots of boys do like to read."
He was right. The club membership is growing and, despite the club being in its infancy, the boys have big plans that include castles and forts in the library..."
But really- perhaps if more parents were seen reading books and watching television less, more boys- and girls- would follow their example.
But that would involve activating the cells behind the eyes...

GIve them a break
"Thirty-three staff at Auckland City Hospital have been punished for looking at X-rays and information on a man who had an eel stuck up his bottom.
Staff were sacked, given verbal warnings, written warnings and final written warnings after an investigation found there was no legitimate reason to access the patients records..."
Come on- it's like driving past a nasty bit of road kill or a car smash. You just HAVE to take a peak!

Gun control madness
Reading comments on one of the MSM 'news' sites, I saw a stream of vitriol directed at the US citizens who dare to think their constitution actually means something. Especially Amendment Two.
They seem to actually REMEMBER their history and the tyranny of perfidious Albion has not been forgotten.
But one comment stood out in it's monumental stupidity. I can't quote verbatim, but it went like:
"...name ONE instance where a government official, acting on the orders of the government, killed somebody..."
One hell of a long list, actually.
Arbeit macht frei- ring any bells?

Correct
"Recently retired Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Coward has lifted the lid on why police officers are leaving in droves...
..Coward said officers were feeling disheartened with the dramatic changes that had taken place in the past 12 months.
..Coward said officers were feeling disheartened with the dramatic changes that had taken place in the past 12 months.
"I think that the key word here is frustration - with budgets, the judiciary, new systems in place alienating the community and traffic taking precedence over everything," Coward said.
"It is a frustration shared by frontline staff."
Coward said he didn't want to sound disgruntled but believed the public had the right to know what was happening..."
We, the people paying for this, share your frustration, too.
At least, those of us without our heads up our arses- who have a world outside of television, do...

More academic cockwaffle
"Teen pregnancies may be frowned upon by society but they can ''enrich and enhance'' the lives of young Kiwi mums, a Canterbury University researcher has found..."
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/8548996/Teen-pregnancies-can-enhance-mums-lives
If by 'enrich', they mean provide an income stream by leeching of the taxpayers, then yes.

The Blame Game
"Charge against the formation leader of an Air Force Iroquois that crashed on Anzac Day, killing three men, changed after two days of evidence.
Flight Lieutenant Daniel John Pezaro, 30, was charged with negligently failing to perform a duty, after failing to abort the mission when weather conditions deteriorated so much that visibility was lost..."
I'm betting that is he HAD aborted the fight, he would have been dragged over the coals for doing so. I'm sure the conversation would have gone along the lines 'So do you expect a war to stop because you don't feel safe flying in the rain?'
One word:
Scapegoat.

BAD choice of words
"Arthur Allan Thomas, pardoned of the Crewe murders, has retaliated against a eulogy in which Deputy Police Commissioner Mike Bush described officer as having "integrity beyond reproach.."
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/8532112/Arthur-Allan-Thomas-hits-back-at-eulogy
For those who don't know-
"A Royal Commission of Inquiry in 1980 found Hutton and one of his detectives, Len Johnston, faked evidence against Thomas by planting a cartridge case from Thomas' rifle at the murder scene." (from the above link)
If 'integrity beyond reproach' includes planting evidence- well- what can I say....

Which act is more offensive?
"Three nephews of MP Hone Harawira, accused of beating up a 12-year-old boy, appeared in court this afternoon.
Mau Toa Harawira, 30, Enesi Zane Brooks Taito, 25, and Tohora Harawira, 22 - sons of anti-violence campaigner Hinewhare Harawira - are on bail after the alleged assault..."
"A commercial pilot was today fined $3750 for the "gravely offensive" act of hovering a helicopter over the summit of Aoraki/Mt Cook on Christmas Eve in 2011..."
I guess we will have to wait for the outcome of the first story to be settled in court, but if there were any true justice in this country, slapping around a little kid would carry a WAY bigger penalty than upsetting a mountain's mojo!
