Like water, but more so, the milk has to be:
- Collected from multiple sources
- Moved to a processing plant
- Tested
- Processed
- Packaged
- Distributed
- Stored under controlled conditions
And all this is just post milking- a lot goes on at the farm before Fonterra starts to do what they do.
It also has a very short shelf life.
Of course it is going to cost more than soft drinks, which have a far simpler manufacturing process, no storage issues and a long shelf life.
Still not convinced?
Buy powdered milk or purchase a goat or cow!

I don't know...
It's obvious that coke et al is going to be cheaper than milk to produce (maybe we should be asking why we are paying so much for those drinks). On that point we agree.
We also agree on costs needing to be met for milk (from the cow to your cup of coffee).
But it just doesn't seem fair that the price of NZ milk is cheaper in England than NZ.
Given also, that the tax payer gives farmers assisstance in adverse weather (and tax avoidance by some).
Its all just more of the same old communist shit Oswald.
The more I think about it, the more I realised we are being absolutely rorted by the soft-drink companies... that needs to be looked at ASAP. They don't have to give dividends to the Government, they don't need big cattle beast pooing, peeing and munching their way through paddocks (not to mention the thousands of litres of water each cow uses). Why the f@#! are we paying so much for synthetic sugar water?
And they don't put real cocaine in it anymore either, f-ing muppets!
