My opinions on matters of the day that, generally, have pissed me off. Being described as a 'Surly Curmudgeon', by those who meet me on a good day, I have a poor regard for the human species. This is my place for my free speech- not bloody yours. Crap under your own rock.

What colour is the sky on YOUR planet?
"...Last week, the Tauranga-headquartered business unveiled $85,000 two, three and four-bedroom models with the same footprint, accepted by the Department of Building and Housing (DBH) for Christchurch earthquake victims, and said the first place was up to show an 83sq m temporary family house.
But the designs drew criticism for lacking aesthetic or environmental attention.
Andy Watson of Christchurch, a architect graduate, criticised Jennian's designs, saying they offered no flair and little environmentally.
"It would be worth pursuing what criteria the DBH used to choose this design. It obviously has absolutely no design criteria and unfortunately Christchurch is going to be left with a bunch of very ugly, useless boxes in a couple of years time," said Watson, of MAP Architects..."
Step this way for a sound slapping.
This is temporary accommodation, designed to be assembled for minimal cost and in a short time. They will always have a future use as cabins, batches, rentals and for the great many who don't give a stuff as long as it is a roof over their heads.
Is the little whiney bitch pissed that his design wasn't picked?
Personally, I would be happy with a fitted out shipping container, if the alternative was a leaky house with no working dunny, heating and bits falling off it, going into a VOTD winter.

Don't you hate the meddling state
"...The Land Transport Safety Authority takes a dim view of any roadside signs that could distract drivers. The regulations are pretty clear: "A person must not install on a road, or in or on a place visible from a road, a sign, device or object that is not a traffic control device, but that may be mistaken for a traffic control device."...
...Unfortunately, the Labour Party still didn't get it. General secretary Chris Flatt huffed that it was all a dastardly plot by National Party bloggers and right-wing groups to ruin the campaign. "Any reasonable person would see that the nature of the writing and the `vote Labour' on there indicates they're not traffic control devices," he insisted, and vowed party supporters would continue using the signs, though they had been told to be more cautious near roads..."
Now don't you just hate it when silly little regulations interfere with your plans.
I mean, you KNOW that in the real world no harm will come from what you do- and your great idea is torpedoed by a technicality in law.
Suck, doesn't it.
I could ALMOST fell sorry for Liarbore IF THEY HADN'T INFLICTED SO MUCH OF THIS LEGISLATION ON US ALL!!!
But they did and so do Liarbore-Lite.
All this legislative stifling to save us from ourselves suddenly collides with their grand idea and its's unfair!
Yes- it is! Folks like me have been complaining about this sort of bullshit for years, while you smarmily imposed more and more restrictions on what we were permitted to do with our lives, money and time- for the greater good.
So eat shit and suck it up!

Another one untouched by the ravages of intelligence
PT Barnum was right
"Real estate records come and go with startling frequency and this $US6 million (NZ$7.65 million) sale might not sound like much of a record, until you find out Planet Calypso is a fictional place on the Entropia Universe social gaming site.
Yes, somebody has actually spent $SU6 million on thin air..."

What so many don't know
Difference between Democracy and Republic, in brief:
Democracy: b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences | Republic b: a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law. |
Democracy and Republic are often taken as one of the same thing, but there is a fundamental difference. Whilst in both cases the government is elected by the people, in Democracy the majority rules according to their whims, whilst in the Republic the Government rule according to law. This law is framed in the Constitution to limit the power of Government and ensuring some rights and protection to Minorities and individuals.
I have often been accused of being 'undemocratic'
Damned right!
