Cry me a frickin' river

"Proposed welfare reforms that aim to push people into work are "vile" and the punitive sanctions on beneficiaries will only put further strain on community organisations, advocates say..."

I believe that taking MY earnings by force to pay for the indolent lifestyle of others is pretty friggin' vile.

My children are being punished by the FUBAR lives of some of these damned beneficiaries, that us taxpayers are forced to fund. Bash the bloody beneficiaries by all means. The career mendicants amongst them would benefit from a spell in the workhouse, walking the treadmill to produce electricity.

Stick it to the bludging bastards that clog the system with their indiscriminate breeding, drug abuse and idleness. The ABLE-BODIED MUST WORK. Or starve if they chose not to- that is the choice- work or starve.

Do you start to see the problem here?

"The woman branded a "nark" for speaking to police about the death of Ngaruawahia baby Serenity Scott-Dinnington has started a Facebook page to help fight against child abuse in New Zealand.

Six-month-old Serenity died in Auckland's Starship Hospital last month after her life support was switched off.

Police are investigating after medical staff reported her injuries were similar to shaken baby syndrome..."

Caveman culture at work.

Being a party to murdering children is not as bad as speaking to the enemy (the police)

Tribalists are the scum of the earth.

Four year term for MP's

Porridge

"Corrections Minister Judith Collins has a message for the long-term prisoner who is demanding healthier menus: "stay out of jail if you don't like the food".

Dean Wickliffe, one of New Zealand's longest-serving inmates, wrote to Corrections boss Ray Smith asking for greater variety of more affordable and healthy food for purchase in prisons.

But Collins said: ''If he was so worried about the food in prison, he had choices in his life.

''One of them was to not commit crime to end up in prison for long stretches. Hopefully before committing any other crimes, he would like to remember the food he found so boring and tasteless.''

Collins said Corrections made no money from selling ''treats".

She said a smoking ban, in force from July, would mean prisoners would have more cash to spend on goodies.

Prisoners can spend up to $70 a week on food and toiletry items from a nationally-managed list which includes 13 items of confectionary but only three items of fruit..."

As we used to say to all bitching about prison 'Stay out of jail'

My understanding was that the canteen list was based on popular demand.

'Healthy Food' was not exactly a popular choice. Peanut slabs, instant noodles and coffee were the big choices- behind fags and tobacco. Bugger all brought the fruit- but then they got a piece of fresh-ish fruit every day. When apples where on the menu- often as second-grade apples were the cheapest option- the box was left out- although they were not allowed to store them in their cells, for the obvious reason.

Let's not forget that the food is not at all flash, but is nutritiously complete and adequate for a sedentary lifestyle. It's more than a lot of pensioners get...

Now wait for the wailing

...from the usual suspects.

"Front line police have been given easier access to Taser stun guns.

New police commissioner Peter Marshall said officers were told last week they no longer had to seek approval to strap on a Taser if they thought they were heading into danger.

"Properly trained and qualified staff can now access a Taser without first seeking approval if they are in a situation in which they feel they need to carry one in the interests of safety," Mr Marshall said on the police website.

He said until now front line police had to seek approval from supervisors or the police communications centres in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch..."

How about easier access to these:

What's not to like?
  • They only train to 50 metres, anyway.
  • The option of birdshot, less lethal, buckshot, slugs or specialty rounds.
  • Intimidation factor.
  • Lower cost.
  • Proven reliability.
  • Easier training.
  • Less lethal to bystanders.

When victim becomes the offender

"...Carterton community facilities manager Brian McWilliams said the scheme was simply aiming to "to have a really pretty town".

He said that meant people needed to take more responsibility for their buildings.

"There are some walls in town that have tagging on them and it just stays there. If graffiti stays on the wall the longer it stays there the more it gets added to."

The draft policy states that "Graffiti on private property is the responsibility of the owner/occupier".

"If the occupier/property owner does not remove graffiti within five working, consent should be given for the council to remove the graffiti at the occupier/property owner's expense..."

NO! no no no no no no no!

This is totally wrong on all levels!
A typical example of an arrogant and dictatorial local government. A property owner is the VICTIM of a crime- and by some bizzare twist of 'logic', he is RESPONSIBLE for the repair of the criminal damage inflicted on his property.

What a total load of horseshit!

The only person responsible for repairing the damage is the shit-head vandal that committed the act of willful property damage. HE is the offender.

NOT the RATEPAYER whose property was defaced.

Is that so hard for even a pencil-dicked council apparatchik to understand?

It would appear so...

The end of the world

Well, it's a good excuse to play this video, anyway...

Academics

"An Italian toddler has died after her father forgot to drop her off at day-care and left her in his hot car for five hours.

Doctors at Ancona's Salesi paediatric hospital on the Adriatic coast declared the 22-month-old brain dead yesterday (NZ time), three days after her father went to his university teaching job, leaving the child in the car..."

There is carelessness, then stupidity and criminal negligence. Take your pick.

What do you mean- NOTHING?

'Nothing to help poorest families'

"Last night's Budget did little to help low-income people, says Barnados Marlborough area manager Mike Henderson.

A brave Budget would have adjusted tax reductions made last year to balance out the effect of increasing GST, to make sure low-income people benefited, Mr Henderson said.

Families living on a limited income were struggling to cover the basics such as bread and milk...'

OK, so the position has already gone from 'Nothing' to 'Little'.

I say that they already get 'Plenty'.

So do many other taxpayers who are sick of their own families going short to prop up the ungrateful authors of their own misfortune, deadbeats, serial breeders and professional medicants. They may well say they get 'Far too much'.

There IS intelligent life in Masterton

"A veteran Masterton deer hunter has spoken out over what he believes were manifestly inadequate penalties imposed on a group of hunters who broke the rules before a woman was shot dead near Turangi late last year...

...Mr Stuart said the consequences of their "very serious breach" were that while they could eventually get on with their lives, the young woman who died had lost that privilege.

"You can feel sorry for the bloke who shot the girl, who is deeply remorseful, but at the end of the day, he did it."

He said as a veteran hunter he had to wonder how the shooting could have happened.

"They must have been very inexperienced hunters not to have been able to distinguish a camper's headlamp from a deer's eyes...."

I have lost count of the shots I have NOT taken because I could not 100% identify the target AND/OR positively know where a missed shot would fall.
It's hunting- not war. Mistakes are not an option.

I DO feel sorry for the poor dumb SOB that shot a camper- a little. I feel a lot sorrier for her and her family. I can't feel that 'but for the grace of the gods- there goes me.'

THAT is the hallmark of a GENUINE accident.

This would explain the poor standard of driving there

"A Masterton alcohol checkpoint had to be suspended on Friday after a flurry of drink-drivers stretched police resources and caused a queue to form at the police station's alcohol testing unit.

Three hundred vehicles were stopped at a Chapel St checkpoint between 8pm and 9pm on Friday, with four drivers arrested after testing over the limit within 30 minutes of setting up the operation.

"That's an extremely high number to be caught at one checkpoint," said Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr, of Masterton police.

He said the number of positive results left police struggling to keep up, at one point suspending the checkpoint because of a lack of staff to run it.

"It was that bad that when we got back [to the police station] we were queuing to use the testing device..."

It really is best not to be out at night in some places...

State dependence shows more and more

I have been following a small town's Facebook page and have noticed a disturbing trend. With every event of interest (the last one was a few seismic testing charges being detonated) there are loud whinging noises along the lines of 'I was not officially told'.

They seem to think that it is the responsibility of local government to PERSONALLY inform them of what is going on (and as often as not, similar whinging about not 'being consulted') Their tone implies a personal visit with an information pack and a cap-wringing apology for any possible inconvenience that may be suffered.

A public notice in the local papers isn't enough anymore. Heaven forbid that they take a little interest in local affairs and keep their friggin eyes and ears open. That they should bother to visit a few websites, read the local free papers, look at a noticeboard or actually talk to people about life off the screen or sports field.

To me, the worrying trend is the dependence on local government for information. The conditioning is working!

No, I HAVE NOT gone to the green side

...but I do appreciate good design and innovation. I had a look through this house today and liked a lot of what I saw.

I have always dreamed of a house out in the bush off the grid and this one makes it work without the hair-shirt hippy lifestyle. I would add a log burner and a small backup diesel set, but I'm a 'belt and suspenders' sort of chap.

I also dream of castles and the lotto win I would need is as probable as the fusion pack I would need to air-condition it...

Leftism lock-step explained

"Anyone should be allowed to speak out, whoever he is, as long as he is not a hostile element."- Mao Tse-tung, 1945.

And here, in a nutshell, is the doctrine of the left. Freedom of speech, as long as it does not go against party line. One thing for the blogs of individuals, quite another thing to impose on a country.

Evil stepfathers

"In the wake of Serenity Scott-Dinnington's death, we examine the safety of children raised by men who are not their real fathers....

...Now child advocates say that raising a young child with a man who is not its father increases the risk of the child being violently assaulted.

Some have gone as far as claiming that raising a child with its biological father "virtually guarantees the child won't die", but substitute the father for another man and you risk harm to the child.

Young men, rather than women, are over-represented in child abuse statistics, despite women usually being the primary carers..."

So- let's look at the actual figures:

"A report from the children's commissioner in 2009 showed of 57 under-five child homicide deaths from 1991-2000 the father was the perpetrator 18 times, the mother 14 times, and a defacto partner 25 times..."

Right.

18 dead kids equates to "virtually guarantees the child won't die" As opposed to 25 dead kids from the high risk group.

All I can draw from that statistically small sample is that there is an increased risk- but have you noticed something here?

There are only biological fathers and de-fecto's.

Do the random walk-ons count as de-factos? (who are also labeled stepfathers)

This is a damned gross slur on all the good men out there- and I know more than a few- that have stepped up to the unenviable task of taking on another blokes kids. In all the cases I know, they are doing a damned sight better job that the feckless deadbeat that abandoned his responsibilities.

Looking at the opening line:

"... raised by men who are not their real fathers...."

ARE they being raised by these pseudo-men?

I think not- they are just there to shag the mother and probably rort the welfare system.

They ain't in it primarily for the children- which you need to be to make raising a family work. And nor are so many of the 'Mothers'.

Motivator

"A group of young Petone pupils are gearing up for an "educational" field trip to McDonald's, with free burgers in the offing.

About 100 Wilford School pupils, aged between 5 and 7, will visit Petone McDonald's next Monday and Tuesday as "a very interesting learning experience", the school says..."

The rest of the story

"Wannabe ninjas have had nunchakus and throwing stars confiscated by Customs, while tear gas, muskets and knuckledusters are among the more bizarre weapons being stopped at the border...

...Among the guns seized by border control last year were 76 rifles, 16 shotguns, 41 pistols – and a musket.

Upper Hutt Gun Club captain Dave Grant said it was rare for muskets to be used for game shooting nowadays, and it was more likely someone was trying to smuggle it in as a collector's item..."

Now I know of this 'musket' (which it strictly speaking isn't, but I will forgive a mere reporter for not knowing the distintions between muzzle-loading firearms)

The chap who imported it did so as it was a model not available here in NZ. He is a keen collector and shooter of these period firearms.

He did all the paperwork as advised by police that was needed and some pencil-necked customs wennie decided he didn't like the packing label's description of the contents. Some matter of being 'misdescribed'. So it was confiscated with no right of appeal. But only after they got the unsuspecting importer to first pay the GST!

There was never any attempt to smuggle this kitset firearm into the country. A permit to import was issued by the police, this was later revoked on a whim of customs.

Ruakokoputuna

And they have a website.

Amazing country and no bugger really knows about it. It's only 50k from home, but I haven't been there since 1979 when I went there grunting in the Army.

Went for a drive up there today. The road is not as scary as when you are in the back of an RL Bedford with a teenage driver...
