New Zealanders will miss out on two of 11 public holidays this year because Waitangi Day is a Sunday and Anzac Day falls on Easter Monday - already a statutory holiday.
Labour MP Grant Robertson said the holidays should be able to be taken on a Monday in such instances..."
The merits of this proposal aside- You had how many years in power, when you could have easily done this?
Like the $5000 tax-free threshold.

"Kiwi children are running the gauntlet of fast-food outlets on their way to and from school, research shows.
The high number of outlets near schools is thought to be a factor in the childhood-obesity epidemic sweeping the Western world.
A new study by Canterbury University's GeoHealth Laboratory showed fast-food outlets were 5 1/2 times more likely to be clustered around schools than other areas and three times more likely to be in poorer areas than rich..."
Did I ever tell you how much I friggin' hate Food Nazis?
Of course I have- and I shall keep doing so.
These scum will not stop until the control EVERY part of our lives, if left unchecked.
The last sentence in the quote shows the shonky 'research' (opinion more like)
There would be more shops in the poorer areas due to the lower bloody rent, more than anything!

Jails and Nursing Homes
Here’s the way it should be:
Let’s put the seniors in jail and the criminals in nursing homes.
This would correct two things in one motion:
Seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They would receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical
Treatment, wheel chairs, etc.
They would receive money instead of having to pay it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they would be helped instantly… If they fell or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes.
All meals and snacks would be brought to them.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight/fitness room, spiritual counseling, a pool and education…and free admission to in-house concerts by nationally recognized entertainment artists.
Simple clothing – i.e.. Shoes, slippers, pj’s – and legal aid would be free, upon request.
There would be private, secure rooms provided for all with an outdoor exercise yard complete with gardens.
Each senior would have a P.C., T.V., phone and radio in their room at no cost.
They would receive daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear any complaints and the ACLU would fight for their rights and protection.
The guards would have a code of conduct to be strictly adhered to, with attorneys available, at no charge to protect the seniors
And their families from abuse or neglect.
As for the criminals:
They would receive cold food.
They would be left alone and unsupervised.
They would receive showers once a week.
They would live in tiny rooms, for which they would have to pay $5,000 per month.
They would have no hope of ever getting out.
“Sounds like justice to me!”

"A mongrel mob associate's grasp of history was sadly exposed in a Napier court when a judge asked him what he thought the term "sieg heil" meant.
"It's just another way of saying hi to the bros," Fabian Hungahunga, 21, replied when Judge Tony Adeane asked what he thought the term meant.
The term, adopted by the Nazi Party in the 1930s to signal obedience to the party's leader, Adolf Hitler, is commonly used by Mongrel Mob members..."

70,000 litres of water- that has a vaule of slightly less than $2.00 per cubic meter- about $130 at the local rate for those exceeding their quota.
So they will truck the water to where it can be reused- that will be 4-5 water tanker loads. Even just going a couple of k's, the cost of the transport is going to far exceed the value of the water.
A typical council PR stunt. They do not have the balls to stand up and say the cost to reuse this water is excessive and is yet another buden on the ever-suffering ratepayers.
But, hey- got to appease the green vote!

"A bill that would make imprisonment a penalty for people with overdue fines, has today been criticised by a lobby group that says Ireland has abandoned similar legislation.
The Courts and Criminal Matters Bill, which was introduced last April and is currently before a parliamentary select committee, is intended to strengthen enforcement measures.
Among the proposed amendments, people with outstanding fines might have their driver's licence suspended. Where fines were unaffordable and unenforceable, the legislation provides for the penalty to be a prison term or home detention sentences.
Rethinking Crime and Punishment lobby group director Kim Workman said international research showed imprisonment for non-payment of fines was a bad idea..."
Yes, well the usual hand-wringers WOULD think that!
And it is NOT a good idea, BUT that stick has to be there for the recidivist types that will not pay. Nor will these types care about forfeiture of licence. They just carry on as if nothing has happened. Jail is the only option for these lowlife- until we bring back the workhouse!
How about dock their earnings or dole? This can be done for liable parent- or even for student loans- just put a lower threshold- like earning or receiving anything as a wage earner or a mendicant.

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or X box 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a government job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.
Before you write that I've violated someones rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be demeaning and ruin their self esteem consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other peoples mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

"The Government has no plans to step up to the global standard for foreign aid contributions, despite a new report urging it to do so.
A peer review by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development found New Zealand's foreign aid was down 4 per cent in 2009 and at $407 million, was the lowest of 24 developed countries in the Development Assistance Committee.
New Zealand's aid was equivalent to 0.28 per cent of gross national income, well short of the agreed United Nations target of 0.7 per cent..."
I have a better proposal.
Foreign aid is canned. You get NOTHING from us.
We are broke from fixing Christchurch. It may be the Village of the Damned, but it's a New Zealand Village of the Damned.

While this is a cheap ebook reader, it works really well and I'm using it a lot.
I have found SO many out-of-copyright books that I have always wanted to read and they are FREE!
Even the latest titles are a fraction the cost of print and word is prices will continue to fall.
I will definitely be buying one of the more upmarket readers with the real-ink screens that actually look like paper (and have way more battery life)
My son already has dibs on the current one.

Laws refused, saying he was taking the case personally because he knew Sahara Baker from her time at his daughter Lucy's pre-school...
...An email exchange with Main followed, Laws saying: "I have no intention of letting the feral Maori underclass keep killing their kids. They are almost all exclusively Maori ... victim and perpetrator. Look at the local roll call: Karl Perigo-Check, Cherish, Jhia Te Tua ... now Sahara. Notice the common thread?"He said Main was helping protect a "feral family she didn't know" and signed off: "I regard you and your ilk as part of the problem. Have a great White Ribbon Day next year and feel better about your liberal impotence..."
We need more of this plain speaking and a hell of a lot less pussyfooting around the REAL problem- our scummy underclass- be they brown, white or brindle trash.
If a few folks precious feelings get hurt- they are alive to feel the pain!
